Biography
Steely Dan is an all American rock band who started up many years ago and have been entertaining huge numbers of people for all of those years. The two band members where Walter Becker and Donald Fagen who were both very famous in the 1970s when the band was most popular and still had a loyal fan of groupies. They have release seven albums over their long career where they have mixed the type of music between rock, jazz, funk and R&B with is rather diverse for a band to play all four but this is part of the reason they stayed famous for so long. When making their albums the two guys in the band has a cast and crew of band players who all played different instruments so that they could find the perfect sound for their music.
Their short touring season of 1972 to 1974 made it difficult to maintain their original popularity because the band then became secluded into their home studio where they spent most of their time remaking songs for their next album. Although being apart for most of the 1980s the band got back together to make more music and albums for their fans that came out in the open once the band showed their faces once again. It was not until 1993 that the band did another live concert for their many thousands of fans plus the tens of thousands that could not go to the show. The band received a Grammy award for having the best album of the year in 1993 which was an another big turning point in the lives of the two band members as well as the long history of the band.
Their first album was called Can’t buy a Thrill which was released in 1972 with their top hit single of the time Let’s Do it Again. In 1993 a box set of the albums was released called Citizens of Steely Dan. The Alive in America album came out in 1995 and then the tour called Two against Nature which was another great hit from the band. Many people wondered why a band with such a huge following wanted to take time out from the busy life of a rock musician. After such a long break there seemed to be little reason for them to come back since they had left without much of a word but then they did have many devoted fans hoping they would come back to play a few more times and make many more great hit singles.
